Kayce Lassiter
Hi! My name’s Kayce Lassiter and I’m a writer. I’m practicing — learning to say that with a straight face. Every time I say it, I feel like I’m at a self-help meeting of some kind or that the bouncer is going to show up and throw me out. Well, most writers do need help and I’m probably tipping the “need help” scale way to the right anyway. So it’s not a bad thing to practice.
What about me? Well, I’m a second-generation native who grew up on a dairy farm in the good ‘ol Valley of the Sun. Living on a farm as a kid can be fun, but it can be lonely too. So you learn to dream, to imagine, to pretend — something I’ve just never grown out of. Shhhhh…don’t tell my family. They don’t know I still pretend.
So, what does an old broad do when she still wants to pretend, but doesn’t want anyone to know? She writes. That’s my story…and I’m stickin’ to it! I live still in a small town in Arizona with my six horses, two dogs, a cat, and one niece…she lives with me, not me with her. I have a day job which I would dearly love to dump one day to write full-time. But until the publishing fairy dumps a whole load of money dust on me…alas, I’m gonna have to “keep the day job”.
No, sadly, I’m not yet published…and “yet” is the operative word. I have three completed manuscripts that are all in various stages of completion. Now, keep in mind that “completed” tends to be a very fluid state for me. I finish them, I send them out, I get a
Right now, the titles of these masterpieces (no rejections this week) are: Katie’s Rock, Loons of a Feather, and The Marilyn Club. Of course, I’m told those titles will all change when I’m finally published. (I’m practicing saying “when” instead of “if”, too.) I’m proud to say that all three of my titles have been finalists in at least one contest, with Katie’s Rock taking a second place and Loons of a Feather taking a third. The jury is still out on The Marilyn Club — I’ll let you know in the blog how it fares. The stuff I write is mostly at the sweet end of the scale, with more humor and emotion.
I like to build characters that I can fall in love with and I’m hoping you will too, one day. So stay tuned to the Butterscotchmartinigirls blog to keep up with what’s going on in our fabulous little group. Hope to meet you all one day at a book signing, conference room, or in the bar. Hold on tight…cuz we’re gonna go real, real fast!
