MySpace or Bust

Yeah, I finally have a Myspace.  It’s the writer’s next stop on the promotional doodad journey.  I setup the URL and found a layout I liked (thanks to a 12 year old).  Now I wanted to change the words, add pictures, etc.  Well, you guessed it; I had to ask someone else for help, this time my 14 year old niece.  The kids are amazing.  They run through the steps without thinking, without any evidence of a pinched eyebrow or disturbed thought.  So, I follow along and take some notes (I know old school).  I tried to make these changes the next day.  Again, you guessed it I couldn’t repeat what she did.  So I had to go to school and study.  I looked at the code, I looked at the source on other sites and I tried to use the tutorials.  Finally, after much angst, nail biting and a few curse words I did it.  I finally have my site somewhat where I want it.  Now like the youths (not a kid my niece corrects me), I’m addicted to changes on my road to getting it perfect.  I’ve noticed the yout’s (My cousin Vinny) change their spaces all the time.  I’m just trying to get it to a point where I can add friends, let alone make flighty changes based on mood.  Just think when the yout’s take over this world, what type of technology will exist.  What will the poor technology learning challenged like me do in their world?  I can only guess, because I’ll have the wisdom, wrinkles and patience to do a lot of crap with their technology…evil laugh.    Isabella

Amish Saturday

Tiffany and I had such a nice time on Friday, we wanted to share the fun with my husband, Mike. One of his co-workers was in the hospital in Canton, a couple of hours away from us and we found a tourist attraction in the area. The Amish. Actually, we wanted to see Yoder Farm, a working Amish farm where we could tour the house and see how they lived in the past.

I love the movie “The Witness”! And this house was very similar and the barn almost as big. Here’s a picture of Mike holding Parker in front of the barn. The Amish would approve of this picture because you can’t see his face. They don’t want tourists to take their pictures.  Tiffany bought a traditional faceless doll.

We talked with a young lad in the barn who showed us how skittish the piglets were by chasing them with a broom. He didn’t hurt them, but their little squeals told what they thought of him! The draft horses were interesting…one of them tried to nip me. However, in his defense, I was in his space ignoring him while I talked.  He only tried to get my attention.  Yet later when leaving the barnyard a turkey screamed at me…who knew?

The kid’s favorite part was the carriage ride. I wasn’t in the mood, and when I was young I had many a horse-drawn carriage and even sleigh rides. I sat a picnic table to read the brochure and take pictures. When I sat down, a single cat slept under the table. Yet, within minutes, critters surrounded me. Cats were on and under the table. A dog came to visit. Other tourists walked by and questioned why… I finally realized I had a bag of baked goodies in the stroller. We had showed our appreciation of the big house by purchasing a boat-load of cookies, turnovers, jams and brownies. One Amish cookie equals 5 store-bought.

Point of interest for a woman: The only embellishments in their homes are plaques with sayings and scriptures and calendars on the walls. “And lots of pretty dishes,” said our guide who was raised Amish.

The school house was pleasant, however, Paige isn’t ready for school and we wanted an early dismissal.

A true test to our enjoyment of the daytrip…we were already talking of returning once we got inside the car to leave.

Berry nice!

If anyone has berry picking in a story, I’m here to answer your questions!

Parker picking berries

On Friday, we drove for an hour to pick berries. While we saved money picking our own, it was about the experience. Our most enthusiatic picker turned out to be Parker. However, they should have weighed him before and after, because none of his berries made it to the basket. In fact, we needed to keep the basket out of his reach!

Paige took berry picking very seriously, however, she always seemed to be on the wrong side of the row and needed to be on the other side. There were miles of berries…and getting to the other side was harder than it sounds.

mvc-006f.JPG As you can see here, with Payton in the midst of the rows. And our final result?????
